eMEdia is a multimedia web resource for media students and educators at Ohio Northern University and for anyone else who is interested in the opportunities at the intersections of global media culture and academic study. Produced by Professional Writing students at ONU, eMEdia’s mission is to publish, catalog, and archive media courses, texts, discussions, and professional and academic opportunities from across the disciplines at ONU and from the wider media world.
What is Media Studies?
Media Studies is a general term for the academic and professional study of mass media culture in all of its forms, from the latest digital innovations to film and global popular culture. In one sense, media studies covers just about everything, since media affects every aspect our lives. To “study media,” then, means to study the big (and small!) life questions that used to be confined to the liberal arts: who am I? how do I want to live? Who are we? How should we live?
